We encourage parents and caregivers to take the time to discuss safety topics that affect
their kids. To help start the conversation, we have put together a list of potential topics:

-Staying safe while travelling independently throughout the community
-What to do if you are offered tobacco, alcohol and drugs
-Practicing online and cyber safety
-Responding to and reporting in-person or online bullying
-Avoiding stranger danger
-When and how to call 000

When speaking of safety:
-Say it early, say it often
-Don’t be afraid to talk about uncomfortable topics and feelings
-Be specific
-Role play
-Empower kids to be the “boss” of their mind and body
-Come up with simple steps of what they can do in an unsafe situation

When it comes to staying safe and making good decisions, knowledge is power! Make it a
priority to start a safety conversation with your child today.
